A substantial end-of-month update... version 0.02
Finally, after more than two weeks of painstaking pixel art work (but made a bit easier thanks to royalty-free resources), I'm proud to present to you the second update. Essentially, the intro has been tweaked to include a chapter title card, and we now have the first actual map of the game! Here's the comparison of the original, made with RPG Maker, to this Game Boy demake:
I tried to be as close to the source material as possible, while also keeping in mind tile size limitations, and the fact that the map width and length must both be divisible by 8.
Note that the southern exit leads to a map from the GB Studio sample game, as I didn't want to break the harmony of entrances and exits between maps. So pay it no mind.
Once next month hits and I'm done with my paid part-time job, I'll go full blast on developing the next version, with hopefully the entire chapter 1 complete.
